Walker says WI is better than year ago

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker says he believes Wisconsin residents are better off now than they were a year ago.

Walker faces an effort to recall him from office, but in an interview with The Associated Press he lays out the reasons why he believes he should retain the position he was elected to fill in 2010.

Walker notes that unemployment in Wisconsin is improved to 7.3 percent in November compared with 7.6 percent when he took office. He says changes his administration made last year have "built the foundation for success in this state."

Walker says he expects to see job growth over the next six months. Wisconsin has lost jobs each of the past five months, fueling anger among those circulating the petitions to force a recall next year.
