Wis. cops: Teen attacks mom over religion argument

KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) -- Police say a Kenosha teen became so enraged while arguing with his mother over religion that he assaulted her with a 28-inch-long steel rod.

The 19-year-old was arrested on tentative charges of battery and reckless endangerment. The woman suffered a bruised eye and three cuts on her head that required 23 staples to close.

A Kenosha News report says the woman told police she asked her son why he stopped going to youth-group meetings. She says he told her he believes in science, and that her belief in God was "stupid."

She says she poked him in the chest and demanded he be more respectful. She says that's when he attacked her.

The teen says he grabbed the rod in self-defense, and struck her because she grabbed a knife.
