CLAYTON, Wis. (AP) -- Bail has been set at $500,000 for the man charged in the Christmas Eve shooting in the Town of Clayton that left a man critically injured.

WBAY-TV reports that a 24-year-old Christopher Andreas was charged with first-degree attempted homicide. He made his first court appearance on Tuesday.

Authorities allege Andreas shot his brother-in-law at a home with an assault rifle then eluded capture for nearly a day. He was arrested after a neighbor noticed his vehicle.

The victim is at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. Updates on his current condition were not released.

Police say Andreas confessed to the shooting and said he had been planning the attack for three months.
