WAUSAU (PRESS RELEASE) - As of 1 pm [Wednesday] Electronic Medical Record systems at Aspirus have been restored, and patient care has returned to normal. The Emergency Department at Aspirus Wausau Hospital is again receiving ambulance transfers.
Early this morning, a regularly-scheduled monthly test of backup generators resulted in a power surge that caused the data and telephone systems to shut down unexpectedly. Throughout the morning there were sporadic outages that resulted in delays in surgeries and diagnostic procedures. Also, ambulances intended for Aspirus Wausau Hospital were diverted to other hospitals.
At no time during the systems outage was patient safety in question.
Aspirus will send out a complete report of the incident as soon as possible.
WAUSAU (WAOW) - The spokesman for Aspirus hospital in Wausau says the hospital is experiencing telephone problems.
According to an email from Greg Aune, "Aspirus data and telephone systems are experiencing sporadic interruptions. These interruptions have caused communication problems and delays in surgeries and diagnostic procedures, but have not created safety concerns."
Aune says that Aspirus will not receive any ambulance transfers until the issues are resolved.
