UPDATE: Manhunt at Mount Rainier for killer of ranger
MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK, Wash. (AP) -- A manhunt continues at Washington's Mount Rainier National Park for the gunman who killed a park ranger Sunday morning during a routine traffic stop.
Authorities say a young man with military experience is a strong person of interest in the shooting. Police say they recovered his vehicle, which contained weapons and body armor. The gunman is believed still in the woods, armed with an assault rifle.
The ranger who was killed has been identified as 34-year-old Margaret Anderson. She was the mother of two young daughters, and her husband is also a park ranger.
People are being asked to stay away from Mount Rainier National Park, and for those already inside to leave. Authorities are stopping and questioning visitors as they depart.
