A New Year's resolution means a second chance

WAUSAU (WAOW) --  For Bob Beecher 2012 is a second chance.

"My New Year's resolution is to get healthier," Beecher says.

A few months ago Beecher suffered a heart attack and had a stint placed in his heart.

"When you are a cardiac patient you don't know when you are going to have more problems so you have to do everything you can to stay healthy," Beecher explains.

Now, he says working out and eating healthy are his biggest New Year's resolutions. "I need to lose weight. Ill be in here 3 times a week. I am resolved to do it."

And Beecher isn't alone. According to Time Magazine losing weight is the most popular New Year's resolution.

"We see a lot more people come in. Even mostly people who have never worked out before," Stacy Summers, Owner of Anytime Fitness in Wausau says.

Summers says gym membership increase by 50% after the new year.

"People get determined after a new year. They say we're going to do it this year, get to my goals," Summers explains.

But not everyone succeeds.

"That's when I call them and ask what I could be doing from my end or tell them to try to come work out with our trainer to get them going again."

But Beecher, he is determined.  And keeping his resolution is a matter of life and death.

"Today is the first day of the new year and it is a new start for me," Beecher said.
