LONDON (AP) -- British Prime Minister David Cameron says he hopes the conviction of two men over the 1993 killing of a black teenager will offer "some comfort" to the man's family.
A jury on Tuesday found two white men guilty of murdering 18-year-old Stephen Lawrence in a brutal racist stabbing that shocked Britain almost two decades ago.
In a statement, Cameron said Lawrence's family had "fought tirelessly for justice."
He said the verdict would not "ease the pain of losing a son, but ... I hope that it brings at least some comfort after their years of struggle."
Following the verdict Lawrence's mother Doreen said she was relieved that the men "can no longer think that they can murder a black man and get away with it."
