Changes in Wisconsin jobless benefits

WAUSAU (WAOW)--With the start of the new year come changes in how Wisconsinites receive unemployment benefits.

Tom Younger of the Wisconsin Workforce Development office in Wausau says, if you file an unemployment claim with the state there will be a one week waiting period before you can begin collecting benefits.

The change is due to the 2011-2013 state budget.

Younger says the change is expected to save the state nearly 50-million dollars.

Unemployed workers in Wisconsin are eligible for 86 weeks of jobless benefits.
