SECAUCUS, N.J. (AP) -- A New Jersey river bridge that opened to allow marine traffic to pass has gotten stuck and can't close, suspending train service.
NJ Transit spokesman John Durso Jr. says the Portal Bridge became stuck in the open position Wednesday night. The cause of the problem hasn't been determined.
The Portal is a swing bridge, with part of it swinging open to let vessels on the Hackensack River go by. It connects Secaucus and Kearny (KAR'-nee).
Train service between Newark's Penn Station and New York's Penn Station has been suspended.
