WAUSAU (WAOW) --  The name of the woman who was accused of driving the wrong way on Highway 51 has been released.

Nancey E. Keener, 52, of Wausau is facing charges of fleeing an officer and traveling the wrong way on a divided highway says Capt. Jeremy Hunt of the Rothschild Police Department.

But, Keener's family says there is a lot more to this story.  According to the family, Keener is suffering from stage four brain cancer.  Her daughter told Newsline 9 that her mother had no control over what she was doing.

On Saturday, police say they used spike strips and a pit maneuver to stop Keener as she drove on the wrong side of Highway 51.

Police say the chase started after 3 p.m. on Highway 51 north of Wausau. They say she was finally stopped near Kowalski Road in Kronenwetter.  Police say speeds reached up to 60 mph.

Authorities say when Keener was questioned after the incident she sounded confused. According to the family, Keener is being treated at a Wausau hospital.

However, despite her condition, Keener could still face charges. Authorities say charges have been recommended to the DA's office and it is now up to the district attorney.  A court date has not yet been set.
