WAUSAU (WAOW)-- 65 students are now part of Idea Charter School in the D.C. Everest School District. The school opened at the beginning of the school year.
The school provides a project-based learning environment. Sue Thompson, of the Idea School says: "What project based learning does is take the planning out the teachers hands and puts it in the students hands. They have the choice of what they will do and how they will do it, but, they must still meet state standards."
Students says the school gives them the opportunity to go in-depth into learning more about their chosen projects. They present project proposals on what and how they will explore topics. The projects often utilize math, science and language arts skills.
The public school is run through the D.C. Everest School District and plans call for adding 15 students next year.
The school holds open at open houses Jan. 9, 12 and 18th at 6:30 for interested families.
