A union official says striking machinists at the Manitowoc Co. could vote on a settlement offer as soon as Friday.
Gary Miller says the company is reviewing the proposed contract which will be forwarded to Local 516 and distributed to about 200 Manitowoc Cranes machinists on strike since Nov. 15.
Union member Leon Gauthier tells the Manitowoc Herald Times that he understands the company's offer still includes the controversial provision that allows workers to opt out of union dues.
The Manitowoc Co. has offered a four-year contract with a two percent raise each year.
Gauthier says the strike is not about money, it's about protecting the union for future generations.
The union says about a dozen members have crossed the picket line and returned to work.
