Train hits building near Townline Rd

WAUSAU (WAOW) --  A train derailed and hit a building in Wausau.

A lieutenant from the Wausau Fire Department says the train was heading north through Townline Road when it slammed into Canadian National, a railway company, located on Junction Street

Authorities tell Newsline 9 that once the train hit the building, it didn't stop, and took out railroad signs in its path.

There was one person in the building at the time of the crash who says she was very shaken up.  But, authorities say there were no reported injuries.

The train finally came to rest right before the Townline Rd intersection, after three empty cars became detached and derailed.

There was some damage to the walls and the heating system in the building.  Authorities closed down a section of Townline Road as they dealt with the situation.

Authorities say they do not know why the train was out of control. An investigation is ongoing.
