Helen Zoromski, 97, of Custer died Wednesday afternoon January 11, 2011 at the home of her daughter in Rochester, MN surrounded by family. Helen was born December 20, 1914, in Sharon Township, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of the late Joseph V. and Mary (Werra) Platta. She attended Ellis and Polonia Sacred Heart elementary schools and graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1931. Her marriage to William Zoromski took place on March 29, 1943 at Sacred Heart Church in Polonia. After their marriage and the end of the war the couple settled in Stevens Point, then built their home in Ellis (Custer) and lived there with their family from 1952 to the present. Her husband William survives.
Helen worked in Milwaukee during WWII sewing parachutes, at Lullabye Furniture Company in Stevens Point and, for many years, worked seasonally at Wysocki Farms. Helen belonged to and was a past officer of the Rosary Society of Sacred Heart Church.
Helen enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and spent many enjoyable times at their cottage in St. Germain. She was a great cook and baked the best apple pies. She did many kinds of needlework and sewing and made numerous afghans and doilies for family and church raffles.
In addition to her husband, William, of Custer, survivors include one son David (Jeanne) Zoromski of Mt. Horeb, WI and a daughter, Diane (Pete) Wottreng of Rochester, MN. She is further survived by five grandchildren; Sara (Shawn) Harlan, Machesney Park, IL, Matt (Chelsea) Grinvalsky, Tim, Ted and Hannah Zoromski, all of Madison,WI; three great grandchildren, Jessica, Cassidy and Riley Harlan; and one brother, Bert Platta of Plover. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and six brothers.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Saturday January 14, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia, Rev. Greg Michaud officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday January 13, 2011 at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home, and from 9:30 AM
