22 lawmakers ask US DOJ to review ID law

Twenty two Democratic Wisconsin state lawmakers are asking the U.S. Department of Justice to review the state's new voter photo identification law.

Democrats argue in the letter sent Friday that the law will suppress the right of minorities, senior citizens, students and the poor the right to vote. Republicans who passed the law say it's designed to cut down on voter fraud, even though there have been few instances of that reported in Wisconsin.

A similar letter to Attorney General Eric Holder was sent in August by the chairwoman of the Wisconsin state Bar Association civil rights section.

A representative of the League of Women Voters also spoke in support of the letter at a news conference. The league has filed a lawsuit challenging the law.
