Striking machinists vote down Manitowoc Co offer

MANITOWOC, Wis. (AP) -- Striking workers at Manitowoc Co. have voted against the company's latest contract offer.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 516 announced the results of the vote Friday. The Manitowoc Herald Times reports ( ) the vote was 140-37.

About 200 machinists have been on strike since Nov. 15. Contract talks between Manitowoc Cranes and the union resumed earlier this week.

The Manitowoc Co. has offered a four-year contract with a 2 percent raise each year. Union members say pay is not an issue, but they believe language in the proposed contract threatens the union's future existence.

A message left with a company spokesman was not immediately returned to The Associated Press.
