Officials: Car in fatal crash was 'hill-jumping'

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) -- Investigators say the 14-year-old driver of a car full of teens was "hill jumping" last month before a crash that killed three and left two injured.

On Friday, the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Department released details of the Dec. 20 crash that killed 14-year-old Austin Gable; his pregnant girlfriend, 13-year-old McKenna Johnson; and 15-year-old Marco Perez.

The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram reports the only licensed driver in the car had a history of letting minors drive.

Gable was driving. Officials say the car was going more than 80 mph when he tried "hill jumping," which involves driving a car fast so it goes airborne at the top of a hill.

Authorities say the car flew 177 feet and flipped. Investigators are forwarding the case to prosecutors for possible charges.
