Packers fans in central Wisconsin look toward the future

WAUSAU (WAOW)-- Packers fans across north central Wisconsin showed their true colors on Sunday donning their best green and gold for a match-up with the Giants. Many of them supported the Pack until the bitter end.

Packers fans began their preparations early for the big game.

"We had people lined up outside of our store this morning ready to get in here and get some gear and they were off to the game," Packerland Plus employee Jory Lawson said.

Fans flocked to the store to gear up. "There will be lots of yelling coming from my door," said Jeena Breuning of Wausau. She stopped by to pick up some gloves, but was also wearing her good luck charm. "I have these green wool socks that I wear for every game."

Another football fan looked a little out of place in Packerland. "It's been rough," said Giants fan Richard Kirshy. He's a hardcore Giants fan married to a Packers fan.

"These kind of Sundays have a little bit of extra meaning when it's me against the world," he said.

And things ended up working in his favor. As the Giants racked up points, fans at some local bars could sense the end was near. There was plenty of frustration when the clock finally ticked to zero, but also pride in defeat.

"The Packers had a great season this year...I'm sure they were looking forward to going to the Superbowl," said fan Steve Magrecke.

And many fans agreed with Magrecke's next statement: there's always next year.
