City leaders want to merge riverfront with downtown
WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Wausau city leaders and a group called Community Design Solutions unveiled a plan to merge the riverfront with downtown Wausau.
"We want the downtown and the riverfront to have a symbiotic relationship and work together," Wausau City Planner Brad Lenz said.
The plan includes adding parks, streets, and lighting to make the riverfront more attractive.
"We want this to be an area where people want to come. And also where people who live here can come and enjoy the waterfront," Lenz said after the group unveiled the plan at the Dudley Tower Monday night.
But, the group wanted the communities thoughts. So, they held design meetings. Getting input from the community and focusing the plans around the people.
"We don't want to create our vision. We want the users of the area to be happy with what is there," Sarah Khorshidifard, Project Manager for Community Design Solutions said.
But, while none of this is set in stone, city leaders say they plan to work with the public and private sectors to raise the money. Lenz said they hope developers will take an interest in Wausau, and turn their plans into a reality.
"We don't know when this will all happen but we will wait for the right opportunity to come and hope it is sooner rather than later," Lenz said.
