K-9 unit helps in search for missing Wausau man

WESTON (WAOW) -- A volunteer K-9 unit helps search for a missing Wausau man. 62-year-old Paul Kulp vanished Saturday. Police said Kulp is 6-feet tall, 300 pounds and has dementia.

The K-9 Emergency Response Team helps local police with searches around the state. The dogs are trained to pick up human scents and alert their handler if they catch a whiff of the person they're looking for. Wednesday's search started near Chang Garden in Weston, which is where Kulp was last seen.

"Today the dogs are working well," said KERT member Kathy Fritsch. "We've been covering a lot of area. It's a little cold but so far things are progressing well."

Police said one of their main concerns is the weather, since it has been so cold and they said Kulp wasn't dressed for the Wisconsin winter. Authorities said they have followed up on several tips so far.

If you have any information about Kulp, you can call the Wausau Police Department at (715)261-7800.
