Wisconsin group says RI florists won't deliver to atheist

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A secular foundation in Wisconsin says it's filing a civil rights complaint against a Rhode Island florist for refusing to deliver flowers to a 16-year-old atheist.

Freedom From Religion Foundation co-president Annie Laurie Gaylor said Thursday that the complaint will target Twins Florist in Cranston. She says Twins refused to deliver flowers to Cranston High School West student Jessica Ahlquist.

Ahlquist is at the center of a legal battle over a prayer banner displayed at the school. A judge ordered the banner removed.

Gaylor says two other Cranston florists and one in Warwick also refused to deliver flowers to Ahlquist. She says Twins refused by writing, "I will not deliver to this person."

A message was left for Twins. A Putnam, Conn., florist has agreed to do the delivery.
