MARSHFIELD (WAOW)--The Marshfield Fire Department is helping to raise money for a fallen soldier. Staff Sergeant Joseph Altmann died from injuries received during an insurgent attack on Christmas Day.
The Fire Department in Marshfield says it wanted to do something to honor Altmann's memory. Firefighters and paramedics in Marshfield put bumper stickers of Altmann on their vehicles.
Starting Monday, the public can buy them from the Marshfield Fire Department for 10 dollars.
Officials say the money raised will go towards a scholarship fund in Altmann's name, but they haven't decided where the money will go just yet.
But they say they want to help other future medics, like Altmann.
"He's a real hero," said Kelly Esker, Relief Deputy Fire Chief of the Marshfield Fire Department. "It's an honor to take him to every emergency call we respond to," he said.
Also in this effort, Altmann's cousin has created a clothing line to raise money. The sales of that line will run for two weeks, starting on Monday.
Those can be ordered at www.lidsteamsports.com using the organization code: ALTMBULDLLC
The firefighters say having Altmann's name on their vehicles will honor him as they respond to calls.
