"It was freezing. I was like, Mom. I'm not going outside."
MEDFORD (WAOW) -- A cold day around our area led some school officials to keep students inside.
When the mercury drops below zero, the principal of Medford Elementary School said the students get indoor recess. But that doesn't mean the fun has to stop. There was no shortage of smiles as second graders played Twister, Battleship and Legos.
"I thought of my cheeks being red because it usually happens in the wintertime," said Paige Schmidtke, who is in the second grade. "And then I thought of playing in the snow but today we didn't go outside for recess."
"Well, it was freezing," said second-grader Makayla Breneman. "I was like, Mom, I am not going outside."
Other students played a game where they saved imaginary animals. Even though some said they'd rather be outside, many said they like to stay in when the temperatures are so cold.
