Community mourns after Taylor Co. crash kills teen

TAYLOR COUNTY (WAOW) -- We have an update on the Taylor County crash that left one teen dead and three others injured. The teenager who died was a student at Medford Area High School.

Authorities have not yet released the 17-year-old girl's name. The Medford Area School District administrator said students had the opportunity to speak with counselors during the day on Thursday. Taylor County Sheriff Bruce Daniels said his thoughts go out to the teens involved and their families.

"This is a terrible tragedy," said Daniels. "Every member of my agency and every first responder has dear feelings about what took place here."

The crash happened on Tuesday afternoon on Hall Drive in the town of Deer Creek. Authorities said the 16-year-old driver tried to avoid hitting a dog that was on the road and lost control of the car. The other three teens injured in the crash were taken to the hospital and released.
