Walter "Wally" J. Firkus
Of Stevens Point, WI, died Thursday January 19, 2012 in Milwaukee surrounded by his family. Age 85 Walter was born October 7, 1926 in the Town of Galloway, WI. He was the son of the late August and Pearl (Pezewski) Firkus. He attended school in Galloway. His marriage to Bernice Kropidlowski took place on September 11, 1948 at St. Mary's of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Fancher. After their marriage the couple settled in Stevens Point. His wife Bernice preceded him in death on September 21, 2008. Walter worked for Dry Gas, now known as Thermo Gas as a truck driver and delivery man for over thirty nine years retiring in 1989. Wally was a member of the Knights of Columbus Monsignor McGinley Council 1170 of Stevens Point. He enjoyed gardening and was known for growing some of the largest onions that he sold to local restaurants. He loved the outdoors in camping, hunting and fishing and playing cards and smear. He and Bernice would travel together, going to Las Vegas, Florida and local Casinos and were the perfect pair together to Polka dance. Wally loved spending time with his family and friends and loved trying to teach you a word or phrase in the Polish language. In Lieu of flowers, a memorial in

Survivors include his daughter Joyce (David Packard) Gliniecki of Hubertus, WI.,
Three sons, Robert (Debbie) Firkus of Waukesha, WI. and Gerald (Lynn) Firkus and Kenneth (Lori) Firkus both of Stevens Point. Further survived by nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. One brother Leonard (Elaine) Firkus of Stevens Point and two sisters Helen Kropidlowski of Aurora, CO., and Evelyn (Andrew) Smrz of Stevens Point. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice and one brother Joseph.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Rev. George Thayikuzhithottu officiating. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home, Stevens Point and from 9:30 AM Wednesday morning at St. Stanislaus Church until the time for mass.
