Edward "Jim" Podratz, 78, of Wausau, died Monday Jan. 23, 2012 at Aspirus Hospice House, Wausau.
He was born July 9, 1933 in Wausau to the late Edward and Esther (Bidwell) Podratz. He married Marlys Boernke Sept. 1, 1957 in Wausau.
Jim served his country honorably as a Captain in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Wausau High School and the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy. Jim was a member of the Masonic Forest Lodge 130, the Shriner's and the Elks Lodge. He was also a member of Grace United Church of Christ for over 50 years.
He enjoyed curling, fishing, and playing bridge and cribbage. He was a great fan of both the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers.
Survivors include his wife Marlys, Wausau; two sons, David (Marcia) Podratz, Duluth, MN, and Andrew (Wynn) Podratz, Minong, WI; a daughter, Jamie Learned, Ringgold, GA; six grandchildren, Abby, Jennie, Hannah, Nathan, Brianna, and Caitlin; two sisters, Shirley Chapman, White Bear Lake, MN, and Margaret Amthor, Watertown, WI.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday Jan. 26, 2012 at Grace United Church of Christ, 535 S. 3rd Ave, Wausau. Rev. Wayne Drueck will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
