(WAOW) - Tuesday was a big night for some big rivalries in central Wisconsin.
On the mats, top-ranked Wisconsin Rapids has won 16 of the last 17 Wisconsin Valley Conference titles, but faced their toughest test of the season, hosting No. 2 Merrill.
The Raiders looked like they would run away from Merrill early after jumping out to a big lead, but Merrill fought back to tighten it down the stretch. Wisconsin Rapids held on for a 32-26 win.
On the ice, Wausau West and Wausau East met in the annual Kuehlman Cup showdown. The Warriors only held a 1-0 lead after the first period, but tacked on five goals in the second to run away with a 6-0 win. It's the Warriors 10th Kuehlman Cup win in 11 years.
