WASHINGTON D.C. (WAOW)-- A 15-year-old Merrill teen is on the trip of a lifetime thanks to Congressman Sean Duffy and the generosity of the community.
John Weber was invited to attend President Obama's State of the Union Address by 7th District Representative Sean Duffy. The Congressman told Newsline 9 he knew he wanted to give his ticket to a deserving young member of the community, and Weber's name popped into his head immediately.
This is Weber's first time visiting our nation's capital. He and his family were able to attend the event thanks to donations from community members. Weber said it's an experience he won't soon forget. "To hear the president speak and to be in the same room as he is , is just amazing to me," said Weber.
Weber was adopted from Russia four years ago and has since developed a passion for politics and American history.
The teen is also an advocate for local veterans. He started his own organization called "Do Salute" to support and honor people who serve our country.
