Poll: Obama is leading over Romney in Wis.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A new poll shows President Barack Obama is leading in Wisconsin for a potential general election matchup with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

The Marquette University Law School poll released Tuesday shows 48 percent of 701 registered voters picked Obama, compared to 40 percent for Romney.

The voters were polled by telephone Jan. 19-22. The poll has a 3.8 percentage-point margin of error.

Most interviews were done before Romney's Republican rival Newt Gingrich won Saturday's primary in South Carolina.

Wisconsin's presidential primary is April 3.

The poll showed 50 percent viewed Obama favorably, compared to 44 percent who had an unfavorable opinion. Romney had a 30 percent favorable rating and a 42 percent unfavorable rating.

Twenty-five percent viewed Gingrich favorably, compared to 53 percent who gave him an unfavorable rating.
