Fights break out at Milwaukee high school

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A Milwaukee police officer was kicked in the face during a series of fights that broke out at James Madison Academic Campus high school.

Police say they used a stun gun to stop the 18-year-old student after she kicked the officer Friday afternoon.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports police were called to the school at 2:15 p.m. when multiple fights erupted.

Eight people were arrested for disorderly conduct. Of those, three also were arrested for resisting or obstructing an officer.

The incident followed a similar occurrence Thursday at Washington High School.

Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Gregory Thornton says the district will take immediate disciplinary action against Madison students involved in the fighting.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett also issued a statement, saying both incidents were inexcusable.
