UPDATE: Body pulled from Chippewa River identified

EAU CLAIRE (PRESS RELEASE) - On 01/29/2012, Eau Claire Police Officers and Eau Claire Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the Chippewa River reference a person in the water. The body of an adult male was subsequently recovered from the river.

The body has been identified as:
60 years old
Eau Claire resident

The Eau Claire Police Department began a missing person investigation in attempt to locate Roger Hansen on 11/19/2011 when a vehicle belonging to him was located on Thorpe Drive in the City of Eau Claire. Hansen was last seen on 11/18/2011.


EAU CLAIRE (WAOW) - At this point there is nothing that appears suspicious. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Eau Claire police have confirmed that the body of a middle aged man has been pulled from the Chippewa River.

The man has not been identified. Police say it's unclear how long the body was in the water and it is too early to tell whether foul play is involved. Police say no missing persons reports have been filed recently.

The body was spotted by a kayaker around 4 p.m. Sunday near the UW Eau Claire campus. Fire and rescue crews launched from a boat landing behind the Hobbs Ice Center in Eau Claire.
