Adolph "Junior" Gruny Jr., 82, Marathon, died Sunday, January 29, 2012 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Wausau.
He was born January 3, 1930 in Marathon, son of the late Adolph Sr. and Margaret (Gottung) Gruny. On August 8, 1969, he married Mildred "Milly" (Karlen) Lang in Marathon. She preceded him in death on May 29, 2007.
Adolph farmed in Marathon all his life. He was a member of the NFO (National Farmers Organization) and a member of the Catholic Knights. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed keeping up on current events and politics, listening to talk radio and reading. He also loved cats, making maple syrup on the farm and spending time with his family.
Survivors include, one sister, Cora Gianoli, Wausau; nieces and nephews, Sandra ( Larry) Smith, West Des Moines, Iowa, Linda (Roger) Krogwold, Dublin, Ohio, Lynn (Julie) Mallak, Indialantic, Fla., Mary Kay Mallak, Champaign, Ill., Brother Augustine Mallak O.S.B., Lisle, Ill.; and Larry (Jocelyn Steinke) Mallak, Mattawan, Mich.
Besides his parents and wife, Milly, he was preceded in death by one brother, Alfred Gruny; and one sister, Ludmilla Mallak.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cassel. Rev. Barnabas Kyeah will preside. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Marathon. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a rosary service at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
