VILAS COUNTY (WAOW) -- Seven students in Vilas County were taken to the hospital after the school bus they were riding in was rear-ended by a truck.

It happened just after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday in the town of Washington. According to Vilas County Sheriff's Lieutenant Mark Collins, the school bus was stopped in the westbound lane of State Highway 70 at Hemlock Lane preparing to let students off. That's when a 2010 Chevrolet truck rear-ended it. Collins said the driver of the truck did not see the bus was stopped.

Seven students were on the bus. Lt. Collins said all the students and the bus driver, Charles McDonald, 62, of Eagle River, were taken to Eagle River Memorial Hospital as a precaution. Two of the students were treated and released for minor injuries.

The driver of the truck, Jill Helgeson, 42, of Eagle River, was also taken to the hospital. Officers said her injuries were not life-threatening.

The Vilas County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
