Body of fallen soldier returned home to Mayville

MAYVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- The body of a soldier from Mayville will be returned to his hometown Friday where a motorcade procession is planned.

A brief ceremony is expected to take place at American Legion Post 69 for 1st Lt. David Johnson. The 24-year-old soldier was killed in action in Afghanistan on Jan. 25.

Visitation is Saturday and Sunday at Mayville High School. A memorial service begins at 2 p.m. Sunday at the high school with military honors at the Veterans Memorial of Mayville.

The Fond du Lac Reporter says Johnson was a 2006 graduate of Mayville High School. He's the second Mayville graduate to die in military service in recent years. Army Spc. Michael Wendling died in Iraq in 2005.
