Man sentenced in Portage Co. for gas station robberies
PORTAGE COUNTY (WAOW)--A man in Portage County who pled guilty to robbing two gas stations learned his sentence today. A judge gave 23-year-old Nicholas Weisenberger five years in prison, followed by five years extended supervision.
Weisenberger made a statement at today's court hearing expressing remorse and desire to change. His attorney said he thought the sentence was fair.
"While his armed robbery doesn't speak to this, he is a good person. But he did a terrible thing and I think the judge had to balance that," Weisenberger's attorney Stephen Sawyer said.
The Portage County District Attorney said, "I think it was an appropriate sentence for the type of offense that was done."
As part of his sentence, the judge ordered Weisenberger to write apology letters to any victims involved.
