WAUPACA COUNTY (WAOW) - The Waupaca County Sheriff's Department is investigating a garage fire that's being described as deliberately set. And they're trying to determine if it's connected to reports of garage burglaries in the area.
In a press release, Det. Sgt. Robert Karski says the Waupaca County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call at 11:09pm on January 25th, 2012 that a garage was on fire. The home is on Round Lake Drive in Waupaca.
The state fire marshall was called in the next day and investigators determined by evidence at the scene that it was a deliberately "set fire".
The sheriff's department is also investigating two garage burglary complaints in the Township of Farmington, which is in the same area as the fire. Investigators are not sure if the burglaries are related to the fire. The complaints were filed on January 26th.
In one complaint, the someone reported two vehicles were ransacked during the overnight hours. The person says a bicycle and a pruning shear were taken. They were later found down the road.
In second report, someone also reported a burglary during the overnight hours. The suspect went through two vehicles, taking change. Several bottles of beer were reportedly taken as well.
