PORTAGE COUNTY (WAOW) -- A Portage County man pleaded not guilty in the death of his girlfriend's two-year-old son.
Reymundo Perez has been charged with two felonies, including first degree reckless homicide. Police said they came to his home in the town of Pine Grove in October. Perez had called 911 -- saying two-year-old Felix wouldn't wake up. First responders took Felix to a hospital. Authorities said the toddler had multiple injuries and was brain dead. Felix died two days later. Without an official cause of death, lawyers on both sides say there's still work to be done.
"The pathologist has not completed his final report and obviously both sides would like to review that report," said Portage County district attorney Tom Eagon. "Basically we want to take a look at all the science in the case, make sure we have all the testing that needs to be done to properly proceed."
"We're obviously conducting our own investigation but we'll be filing a series of motions that the court will have to hear prior to any sort of trial or anything like that," said defense attorney Gary Schmaus.
Perez is scheduled to be back in court in April.
