Protesters ask Haiti leader to show travel docs

Posted:

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) -- A small band of protesters in Haiti has called on President Michel Martelly to prove he's eligible for office.

The about 100 people in Tuesday's demonstration say they want the president to release travel documents that would dispel allegations he has dual nationality.

Haiti's Constitution bars elected officials from being citizens of two or more countries.

The protest comes as a commission of lawmakers investigates allegations that Martelly is a citizen of the United States, Haiti and Italy.

Martelly has said there are no laws that require him to show his passport.
