WAUSU (WAOW) - Before the Wausau West basketball teams collected points on the court a few weeks ago, they collected money for people fighting cancer.
The players and coaches raised more than $2400 in the Warriors vs Cancer event held on January 20th.
Today, they presented that money to the American Cancer Society.
The past few years the Warriors have focused on fundraising efforts, in conjunction with Wausau East, with Hoops for Hope to benefit the Women's Community and Hoops for Hunger to benefit the Neighbor's Place.
Then they turned their attention toward those dealing with cancer.
The fundraising effort had a special meaning this year.
Wausau West graduate Brock McMullen beat Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
He's a volunteer assistant for the boys basketball team.
The Warriors have raised more than $6000 for the American Cancer Society the past two years.
