Saturday Sports Report - 02/11

It's got to be tough for the Merrill and Wausau West wrestling teams.

The Bluejays are the 2nd ranked team in the state, and the Warriors are number three.
They're both heavily favored in Saturday's Wausau West regional.  But only one squad will make it out.

Merrill had five first place finishers, West had seven regional champs.  And West will move on as a team with 276 points. Merrill came in second at 260.

Over to the other division one regional in Stevens Point. Wisconsin Rapids wins the team title with 258.5 points. SPASH was third.
In division two,  Mosinee was the site for this regional.  Wittenberg-Birnamwood wins the team title with 201 points.  Host Mosinee was second with 196, And Tomahawk just behind at 195.

In other wrestling action in the area, Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal wins it's own regional.
At the W-Fremont meet, Shiocton takes the title with 218 points.  Twelve ahead of Amherst.
Over to Athens, Edgar is the champ, 32 points ahead of second place Stratford.
Up at Three Lakes, Crandon fell short, taking second place as a team.  And at the Phillips regional, Chequamegon was third.

I'd like to tell you all a story.  I go to the throwback game in Antigo between the Red Robins and Wausau West.
I walked into the gym and saw the Antigo players surrounding coach Jesse Shaw. He's down on one knee proposing to his girlfriend.
The reason why I'm telling you this story, is because my camera wasn't on in time to capture it.
We still congratulate coach Shaw and his fiance.  And Antigo wins, 44-33.
