UPDATE: Plea deal reached for Rapids wrestlers

WOOD COUNTY (WAOW) -- Representatives from the Wood County district attorney's office confirm they have reached a plea deal in the case against four Wisconsin Rapids wrestlers who have been charged with disorderly conduct.

Newsline 9 spoke with representatives from the Wood County district attorney's office. They tell us Zachary Benitz, Devin Peterson, Rylan Lubeck and Kasey Einerson will have a plea hearing on March 2, 2012. None of the wrestlers' attorneys we spoke with was willing to give a comment on Monday.

The case was originally slated to go to a jury trial starting on March 5th. The district attorney's office representative said that has been canceled. They did not comment about the terms of the plea agreement. On the date of the hearing, the judge can decide whether to accept the deal the lawyers come up with.

The plea hearing will take place on the first day of the state team wrestling tournament in Madison. All four wrestlers won first place in their respective weight class at this weekend's Division I regional in Stevens Point and will move on to the sectional tournament. The Wisconsin Rapids team won the team title at this weekend's regional. In 2011, the team won its 20th state championship title.

The four wrestlers each face one misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. A criminal complaint said the four danced around naked in the locker room -- at times touching their genitals to another wrestler.
