WAUSAU (WAOW)--Warm weather and lack of snow has prevented many counties in Central Wisconsin from opening snowmobile trails. At times, cross country trails have closed.
Granite Peak ski area in Rib Mountain makes snow using 500 snow guns. The hill's manager said, "We use about 150 to 160 million gallons of water to make snow each year. The average snow base of the hill is at 58 inches. " Operators would love to see more snow as it adds to the skiing experience.
Plans call for Granite Peak to remain open into April this year.
