WAUSAU (WAOW)--When Amy Zondlo's mother, Jeanie, died of cancer in 2011, she was overcome with grief. Then, she decided to take that sadness and turn it into something positive. Amy founded The Jeanie Marie Fund. The non-profit aims to help child-based organizations. Amy maintains, "Something good can come from something bad."
The fund includes a "Courage Calendar" which features pictures of many people from North Central Wisconsin facing the challenges of cancer. The money raised through the calendars helps with the Jeanie Marie Fund.
The fund supported the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Marshfield, by providing 400 overnight stays. The Ronald McDonald House is a lodging facility for families with children in the hospital. It costs $5 a day, but organizers say families are never turned away, if they cannot pay. Director Sandy Zygarlicke said, "We help about 400 families a year."
