Nancy "Nan" (French) Keener, 52, Wausau, died peacefully at Hospice House on Saturday, February 11, 2012, after an 18 month battle with cancer - a battle she fought with positive attitude, determination, humor and grace.

Nancy was born April 27, 1959 in Cuba City, WI to George and Virginia French.  She is a 1977 graduate of Benton High School and a 1981 graduate of UW-Platteville.  She married William "Will" Keener on May 23, 1981 at the United Methodist Church in Platteville, WI.

During her years in Wausau, Nancy worked for the Eye Clinic of Wausau, the YMCA, and most recently the Wausau School District for about 12 years.  She was also Will's right hand - assisting with his construction business, Keener, Inc.

Nan loved spending time with her family, especially at their cottage in Lake Tomahawk.  Nancy was an artistic person and enjoyed interior decorating, photography and scrap booking.

Survivors include her husband, Will; her children Nathan and Elizabeth, both at home; her parents, George and Virginia French of Benton; her brother Jon (Jacque) French, Davis, IL; her sisters Jeanne (David) Steffen, Glenwood City and Lynn (Jeff) Pollei, Dodgeville; in-laws, Robert and Joan Keener, Wausau; sister-in-law Kay (David) Harpole, Green Bay; brothers-in-law John (Brenda Autz) Keener, Lodi and James (Michelle) Keener, Geneseo, IL; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Lyle and Jane French; maternal grandparents, Joseph and Mildred Winskell.

Visitation will be Friday, February 17 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Brainard Funeral Home, 5712 Memorial Court, Weston, WI.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church,1101 Elm Street, Wausau, with visitation prior to the service from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.  A private burial will take place Saturday, February 25 at the Benton United Methodist Cemetery with a visitation from 10:00 to noon at the Benton United Methodist Church.

A memorial fund has been established in Nancy's name.

Nancy's family would like to thank everyone for their care and concern during this difficult time, especially the nursing staff of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
