WAUSAU (WAOW)--A shocking child abuse case under investigation in Madison has some people taking a closer look at what services are out there to help children.
Thousands of cases of child abuse are reported each year in Wisconsin. The state defines four areas of abuse: sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect and emotional damage.
The most recent Marathon County Life Report includes 2009 abuse statistics. About 1200 cases were reported. Of those, about 175 were confirmed. Of those, about 27% of those who were abused were removed from their homes
To help victims and families there are a number of services available to help. One is the Child Advocacy Center Of North-Central Wisconsin. The Marathon County Department of Social Services is involved in a pilot project working with victims and families.
