STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -- The WIAA announced Thursday it is prepared to enter a five-year agreement that would move the state basketball tournaments to the Resch Center near Green Bay.
That is, if it cannot reach an agreement with the University of Wisconsin.
The plan could go into effect as early as next year and would extend through 2017. The tournaments would be moved due to scheduling conflicts with college hockey tournaments in 2013 and 2014.
But the move to the Resch Center is not a done deal.
WIAA executive director Dave Anderson told Newsline 9 they are considering an eight-year deal with the university that would keep the tournament in Madison through 2020.
The tournaments will leave the Kohl Center only if the WIAA and the university cannot come to an agreement.
Anderson says they plan to work toward keeping the state tournaments at the Kohl Center. But if the scheduling conflicts remain in place, the move will be made to Green Bay.
Cool and bright Wednesday. Light snow likely Thursday night. A storm may hit Saturday.
