WAUSAU (WAOW)--Children with life-threatening conditions from across the county are spending a week in Central Wisconsin, thanks to a former NFL player from Wausau and his friends.
Before today, Lamayjah Baldwin had never seen snow. The 13-year-old from Florida suffers from sickle cell anemia.
"I think it's very cold out here," says Baldwin. "It's fun and exciting that I get to ski with everyone in the circle of friends."
Baldwin and 21 other children suffering from cancer, and other life-threatening conditions, are on a trip to remember thanks to Jerry Wunsch and his foundation.
Wausau native Jerry Wunsch played football for the Badgers and went on to play in the NFL for 8 years. He started the Circle of Friends Foundation, his rookie year, after a family member died of cancer.
Wunsch: "I saw what it did to the family and knew that I needed to do something about it."
The foundation started small, but now it brings children from all across the country to Central Wisconsin.
