FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) -- The training director for the Wisconsin Department of Justice is recovering from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to the hand.
DOJ spokeswoman Dana Brueck says Tony Barthuly was cleaning his personal handgun Wednesday night at his Fond du Lac home when it went off. The 54-year-old was taken to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, then transferred to Appleton Medical Center and eventually discharged. Brueck says Barthuly is back at work Friday.
Fond du Lac police say all discharges of firearms that result in injury are investigated. However, because Barthuly was the former Fond du Lac police chief, Sheboygan police will handle this investigation.
Barthuly is the director of DOJ's Training and Standards Bureau.
