CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- A prominent Jewish group is urging President Hugo Chavez to prevent anti-Semitic attacks on the opposition's presidential candidate by state news media.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center is condemning a column titled "The Enemy Is Zionism: A Loser As A Promise" that criticized the Jewish ancestry of Henrique Capriles Radonski.
The column was posted on the website of state-run Radio Nacional de Venezuela on Feb. 13.
The Wiesenthal Center said Friday that of its representatives sent a letter to Chavez asking him to prevent further anti-Semitic attacks against Capriles.
In the past, Chavez has rejected allegations of anti-Semitism.
