Individual wrestling sectionals hit the mat today, as grapplers from all over Wisconsin compete for a chance to head to state. 

We'll start off near our neck of the woods, Auburndale hosting a Division 3 sectional.  In the second round, Edgar on the offensive, Matt Nowak gets the pin on Florence's Cole Dollar.  

Nowak wins the 160 pound match.  And finishes third. At 170, Luke Nowak, also from Edgar, he finishes first.  And both will head to state. They're part of five Wildcats making the trip.   

Off to 220.   Zachary Lemmer of Athens with the takedown on his Coleman opponent.  But he would eventually go down on points.  But finish in third. He's headed to state also.  

We're at the heavyweights, Andrew Murdaugh of Stratford scores the second period pin. He'll take first and head to Madison as well.  

Overall in Division 3, 18 kids in our area are headed to the Kohl Center.  

Division 2 action, Osceola holding a sectional, semi finals of 228 pounds, Nick Vaughan Spencer-Columbus pins Kenny Gates.  He goes on to state.  One of two from his school. 
To 285 pound heavyweights. Abby-Colby's Chris Ladwig pins his opponent.  He goes to state as well.  Medford sends pair to Madison, as does the Neillsville Co-Op. 
Staying in Division 1, Eau Claire North sectional, Austin Helmer out of DC Everest rocking Hudson's Nick Johnson with a pin. He'll advance at 138 pounds.  But end up in fourth.  His teammate Alex Spatz will go at 126 pounds.  
Next up is Mason Reinhardt from Merrill.  The Bluejay gets both shoulders of his Menomonie opponent.  He'll make it to state.  Five other Bluejays are going as well.  
Staying at 145 Wausau West ought to be proud of Travis Hettinga. He gets the pin on Chi-Hi's Jory Kubisiak.  Hettinga took first and can punch his ticket to Madison. He'll be joined by five of his teammates as individuals.
And a pair of Marshfield Tigers are going.
Pulaski welcoming SPASH and state champ Wisconsin Rapids to its sectional.  
A bunch of Red Raiders coming away with first place finishes.
To the pool, Division 1 state swim meet going on in Madison. First we have the 100 yard butterfly, Billy brebrick of Wausau East. He wins his heat. He'll finish second overall. He also podiumed on the 50 free, taking third place.   
Over to the 500 freestyle now, Joel Harris of SPASH finished third in the heat. He ends up 11th overall.
In the 100 backstroke, Aaron Scheets from Marshfield finished with 56.64. And finally, back to the lumberjacks, who were in the 400 free relay.  
Mitch Straub took sixth in the 200 freestyle and seventh in the 100 backstroke.
